Short answer

Punjab gives a 10% rebate on annual motor vehicle token tax if you pay the whole year's tax on or before 31 August 2026. The rebate applies to the token tax component only — the income tax and advance tax lines on the same bill are unaffected. Pay through the ePay Punjab app: enter your registration number, generate a PSID, and clear it through your bank app, an ATM, JazzCash or Easypaisa. The rebate is applied automatically in the amount ePay shows you; there is no code to enter and no separate form.

Two things changed this year, and together they are why your bill may look unfamiliar. Punjab revised token tax for vehicles above 1,000cc in the Finance Bill 2026-27 — the first change of its kind in close to two decades — and commercial vehicle rates went up sharply. If you are budgeting from last year's figure, that figure is out of date.

What the rebate is worth to you

Open ePay Punjab, look up your vehicle, and find the token tax line — not the total, and not the income tax or advance tax lines. Enter that figure below.

Whole rupees. Example: a 1300cc car showing Rs 6,000 token tax.

Rs
You save by paying early Rs 0
Token tax payable on time Rs 0

The 10% rebate is calculated on the token tax component only. Your total payable will still include income tax and advance tax where they apply, and those are not discounted. The figure ePay shows you is the one that counts.

How to pay before the deadline

Budget about five minutes. The last week before the deadline is when the app slows down and bank queues build, so earlier is easier.

  1. Install ePay PunjabAvailable on Google Play and the App Store. It is the Government of Punjab's own app and also handles traffic challans, property tax and vehicle registration fees.
  2. Register with your CNIC and mobile numberUse the mobile number registered against that CNIC — the OTP goes there.
  3. Open Excise & Taxation Department, then Token TaxYou will see a grid of services. Token Tax is the one you want.
  4. Enter your registration numberType it exactly as it appears on your registration book. The app pulls your vehicle from the Excise system and shows your current dues — with the rebate already reflected if you are inside the deadline. If the app cannot find your vehicle, the plate format is the usual cause; our plate format corrector generates the alternatives to try.
  5. Generate the PSID and payYou get a Payment Slip ID. Clear it through your bank app, internet banking, an ATM, JazzCash or Easypaisa. Keep the receipt — the portal status can lag the payment by up to 48 hours.

What changed for FY 2026–27

Confirmed

ChangeDetail
Electric vehiclesPunjab has granted a 99% concession on token tax for EVs for FY 2026-27. The concession applies to the token tax component; other lines on your bill may still appear.
Commercial loader vehiclesRoughly tripled across weight categories under the Finance Bill 2026-27, per Punjab budget reporting:
4,060–8,120 kgRs 2,200 → Rs 6,600
8,120–12,000 kgRs 4,000 → Rs 12,000
12,000–16,000 kgRs 6,000 → Rs 18,000
Above 16,000 kgRs 8,000 → Rs 24,000
Transfer feesMotor vehicle transfer fees were increased. Hire-purchase agreement fees were aligned with transfer fees, except for motorcycles and cars below 1,000cc.
The rebate itselfUnchanged: 10% of annual token tax, if the whole year is paid on or before 31 August.

What we could not verify — and will not guess

  • The exact new percentage for cars between 1,000cc and 2,000cc. Published reporting on the Punjab Finance Bill 2026-27 does not agree. One account of the budget describes the rate for 1,000–2,000cc falling from 0.2% of invoice value to 0.1%, with above-2,000cc rising to 0.4%. Other coverage describes the change for all vehicles above 1,000cc simply as an increase. We have not been able to confirm the gazetted figures against the notification itself, so we are not publishing a percentage. The amount ePay Punjab shows for your specific vehicle is the amount that applies.
  • Whether every district's records reflect the revision yet. Excise records update at different speeds. If your amount looks wrong, query it before you pay, not after.

If you have seen the gazette notification with the final figures, send it to us and we will publish the table with the source attached.

Questions

Do I have to apply for the 10% rebate?

No. It is applied automatically to the amount ePay Punjab shows you, as long as you are paying the full year's tax on or before 31 August. There is no code, no form and no separate request.

Does the rebate apply to my whole bill?

No — only to the annual token tax component. A token tax bill in Punjab typically has more than one line on it, and income tax and advance tax are not discounted. That is why a 10% rebate on token tax is usually less than 10% of the total you pay.

Can I still get the rebate if I pay in two instalments?

The rebate is written as applying where the tax for the whole year is paid on or before 31 August. A part-year payment does not meet that condition. If in doubt, confirm with the Excise and Taxation Department before splitting the payment.

Why is my token tax higher than last year?

Punjab revised token tax for vehicles above 1,000cc in the Finance Bill 2026-27, and commercial vehicle rates rose sharply. If your vehicle is above 1,000cc or is a commercial loader, that is the likely reason. Electric vehicles moved the other way, with a 99% concession for FY 2026-27.

What happens if I miss 31 August?

You lose the rebate and pay the full amount, and a late payment penalty can apply after the due date. Unpaid token tax also has knock-on effects: it can hold up an ownership transfer, and it shows against the vehicle when a buyer runs a verification.

I paid but the status still shows unpaid.

Wait 48 hours before doing anything. Portal status lags the payment itself. Your SMS or app receipt with the transaction ID is your proof, not the portal. If it is still unpaid after two days, contact the department with the transaction ID rather than paying twice.

Does this rebate exist outside Punjab?

The 10% early-payment rebate described here is Punjab's. Other jurisdictions set their own rules — Islamabad, for instance, moved to invoice-value-based token tax from 1 July 2026 under the Finance Act 2026. Check your own registering authority's schedule.

Once you have paid

Token tax is one of four dates that expire on different schedules. Track them together so a lapse never turns into a fine.
