Why the same electric bike shows different prices online

If you compare three websites you will often find three different prices for one model. That is not always an error, and understanding the reason will save you money at the counter.

There are five common causes. First, variant confusion: the Metro T9 appears at Rs 260,000 on PakWheels' model page but at roughly Rs 174,000–184,000 in Daily Pakistan's August 2026 market survey, because the survey is quoting the T9 Eco and Sport trims rather than the higher-specification version. Second, battery chemistry within one nameplate: Jolta's JE-70D at Rs 149,900 and JE-70L at Rs 225,900 look similar but the lithium pack accounts for most of the Rs 76,000 gap.

Third, dealer versus manufacturer pricing. Yadea's own Pakistan site lists the M3 at Rs 169,000, while the same model appears at around Rs 174,000 in press coverage — the difference is dealer margin and city. Fourth, stale content: many price pages are years old and never updated, which is why the discontinued Evee C1 Air still circulates at Rs 305,000 even though its successor, the S1 Air, is the current model. Fifth, subsidy treatment: some sellers advertise the net price after a government subsidy, which is not comparable to a list price.

Before you pay

Ask the dealer for the price in writing, itemised: bike price, battery type and capacity, freight or handling, registration assistance, and whether any advertised subsidy has already been deducted. A quoted "on-road price" and an "ex-showroom price" can differ by tens of thousands of rupees.

Jolta Electric JE-70D — the familiar 70cc replacement

The JE-70D keeps a conventional motorcycle layout, which matters more than it sounds. Riders moving off a Honda CD 70 sit in a familiar posture, use a familiar frame size, and do not have to relearn how the bike behaves in traffic. Jolta is one of the longest-established local EV two-wheeler brands and the JE-70D is its highest-volume model, so used examples and informal service knowledge are easier to find than for newer entrants.

The Nisa is marketed towards female riders and is set up accordingly: a lower top speed, a modest 600W motor and a lighter overall package. That specification is honest about what it is. A 45 km/h ceiling is fine for congested urban roads and short arterial hops, and genuinely unsuitable for fast dual carriageways. For a 15–25 km daily round trip within a city it is one of the better-value propositions on this list.

Independent reporting puts practical range on comparable Metro trims at roughly 55–75 km, so treat 105 km as a best-case number.

Vlektra Bolt — the only genuinely highway-capable option

The Bolt sits in a category of one locally. Every other model in this guide tops out between 45 and 70 km/h, which confines them to city work. At a claimed 105 km/h the Bolt is the only electric two-wheeler sold in Pakistan that can hold motorway speeds. You pay heavily for that: it costs more than double a well-equipped commuter EV. Note that published prices differ — Rs 584,000 is cited by PakWheels' editorial coverage and major listing platforms, while some price aggregators show Rs 549,000.

Electric bike price by budget

Electric bikes under Rs 100,000

This band contains the Evee Flipper (from about Rs 97,000), the YJ Future Indus (around Rs 95,000) and the Revoo A04 (around Rs 100,000). These are small scooters with modest packs. Independent reporting puts the Flipper's practical range at only about 25–30 km, so treat this category as short-hop transport — campus, market, a commute under 10 km each way — rather than a petrol bike replacement.

Electric bikes under Rs 150,000

Adds the Evee Mito and Mito+ (Rs 131,000–137,000), the Jolta Sparrow (Rs 144,900) and the Jolta JE-70D and Pakzon PE-70D (both Rs 149,900). This is the entry point for a motorcycle-style body and a practical range in the region of 50–65 km. For most first-time EV buyers replacing a 70cc, this is the realistic starting budget.

Electric bikes under Rs 200,000

The most competitive segment. It includes the Evee Nisa (Rs 155,000–159,000), Yadea M3 (Rs 169,000), Jolta JE-70G (Rs 170,900), Jolta Neo and Storm Pro (Rs 174,900), Neo Pro (Rs 179,900), Evee Gen-Z (around Rs 185,000 at dealer level) and Yadea GT30 (Rs 189,000). You get established brands, published specifications and dealer networks in major cities.

Electric bikes under Rs 250,000

Where lithium packs start appearing at sensible money: the Jolta JE-100D (Rs 202,500), JES-70D (Rs 204,900), JE-70L (Rs 225,900) and JE-100L (Rs 239,900). If you intend to keep the bike more than three years, the lithium premium in this band is usually the better financial decision — see the battery section below for why.

Premium electric bikes

Claimed range vs real range in Pakistani conditions

This is the single biggest gap between advertising and ownership. Manufacturers quote range from controlled conditions: a light rider, a flat surface, a steady low speed, a new battery and a mild temperature. Almost none of those conditions describe a Pakistani commute in June.

Daily Pakistan's August 2026 market survey published practical range estimates alongside model names, and the gap is instructive — the Evee Flipper at 25–30 km, the Jolta Sparrow and JE-70D at 50–65 km, the Yadea M3 at 60–70 km, and larger Jolta JE-100 and Revoo models at 65–90 km. Compare that with the 90–120 km headline claims attached to several similar bikes.

Planning rule

Buy for roughly 60% of the advertised range as your dependable everyday figure, and make sure that number still comfortably covers your round trip. A 40 km daily commute should point you towards a bike claiming at least 70–80 km, not one claiming 45 km.

Electric bike charging cost in Pakistan

You can calculate this yourself in two steps, and you should, because your tariff slab changes the answer dramatically.

Step 1 — find the pack's energy in kWh. Multiply the battery voltage by its amp-hours and divide by 1,000. A 60V 32Ah pack is (60 × 32) ÷ 1000 = 1.92 kWh.

Step 2 — add charging losses and multiply by your rate. Chargers and batteries waste roughly 15–20% of what they draw, so a 1.92 kWh pack pulls about 2.2–2.4 units from the wall. Multiply that by your effective per-unit cost.

That effective cost is not the headline slab rate. NEPRA's FY2025–26 domestic structure ran from a protected rate in the region of Rs 10–13 per unit up to a maximum domestic rate of Rs 47.69 per unit, with an average base tariff of about Rs 31.59. On top of the base rate, bills carry the monthly Fuel Price Adjustment, a financing cost surcharge, and 17% GST. For a typical unprotected urban household, an all-in marginal cost of Rs 40–55 per unit is a realistic working assumption.

Worked example — cost per full charge

If that charge delivers a realistic 55 km, your energy cost is roughly Rs 1.05 to Rs 2.31 per kilometre, or Rs 105 to Rs 231 per 100 km.

Cross-check with a manufacturer figure: Metro states the T9 covers 105 km on 2.5 units. At Rs 45 per unit that is Rs 112.50 per charge, or about Rs 1.07 per km on the manufacturer's own range claim. Assume the practical 55–75 km instead and the figure lands between Rs 1.50 and Rs 2.05 per km — closer to our estimate above, which is a good sign that the method holds.

Electric vs petrol bike: the honest cost comparison

Petrol was notified at Rs 325.92 per litre effective 12 August 2026, following a Rs 1.70 reduction from Rs 327.62. A well-maintained 70cc in city traffic returns roughly 45–55 km per litre; we will use 50.

Running cost over 1,500 km per month

Petrol 70cc — 1,500 ÷ 50 km/l = 30 litres × Rs 325.92 = Rs 9,778 per month

Electric commuter — 1,500 ÷ 55 km per charge ≈ 27.3 charges × 2.3 units = 62.7 units × Rs 45 = Rs 2,823 per month

Fuel-only saving: ≈ Rs 6,955 per month

Less battery amortisation — a Rs 35,000 replacement pack lasting 24 months = Rs 1,458 per month

Realistic net saving: ≈ Rs 5,500 per month, or about Rs 66,000 a year

That last line is the number most price articles omit, and it changes the decision. Use it to work out your own payback: divide the price difference between the electric bike and the petrol bike you would otherwise buy by roughly Rs 5,500. If the EV costs Rs 55,000 more, you break even in about ten months of that commute. If you only ride 400 km a month, the same calculation stretches past three years and the case weakens considerably.

Battery types, lifespan and replacement cost

The battery is the most expensive component and the one most likely to disappoint. Understanding three things before you buy will protect you.

Lead-acid

Cheapest to buy and the default on most sub-Rs 150,000 models. Typical cycle life is around 200–400 charge cycles, and lead-acid chemistry degrades faster in sustained high temperatures — a material concern across most of Pakistan from May to September. Charging is slow, commonly 8–12 hours. Expect noticeable range loss within 12–24 months of daily use.

Lithium-ion and LiFePO₄

Considerably lighter for the same energy, faster to charge, and rated for 2,000 or more cycles by quality manufacturers. The upfront premium is real — compare Jolta's JE-70D at Rs 149,900 with the lithium JE-70L at Rs 225,900 — but over a five-year ownership period a single lithium pack often costs less than three or four lead-acid replacements.

The "graphene battery" question

Many bikes in Pakistan are advertised with a "graphene battery" at a premium over standard lead-acid. Industry commentary published in 2026 argues that commercially available packs sold under this label are generally either enhanced lead-acid or unlabelled lithium cells, since batteries using graphene as the primary electrode material are not in consumer-scale production anywhere as of 2026. We cannot independently test these claims, but the practical advice follows regardless: ask the seller for the cell chemistry, nominal capacity in Ah, and the written warranty period, and judge the pack on those three answers rather than on the marketing term.

Replacement cost

Reported 2026 figures for lead-acid and graphene-branded packs cluster around Rs 30,000–45,000. Lithium replacements for EV two-wheelers start near Rs 43,000 and rise past Rs 120,000 for large high-voltage packs. Prices vary by voltage, capacity and whether a battery management system is included.

Documented owner experience

A PakWheels reviewer of the Jolta JE-70D reported a battery warranty of only three months, a failure in the fifth month after 1,750 km, and a dealer replacement quote of Rs 27,500 with no warranty attached. That review dates from 2022 and warranty terms may have improved since, but it illustrates why the warranty period is more important than the headline price. Get it in writing, and check whether it covers capacity degradation or only outright failure.

Practical charging habits for Pakistani conditions

  • Use the charger supplied with the bike. Mismatched chargers are a common cause of premature pack failure.
  • Let a hot battery cool for 20–30 minutes after riding before plugging in during summer.
  • Avoid routinely running the pack to empty; partial top-ups are gentler on lithium chemistry.
  • Do not leave a bike charging unattended overnight inside a bedroom or a sealed enclosed space.
  • If the bike will be unused for weeks, store it at a partial charge rather than full or flat.

Registration and driving licence requirements

An electric bike is a motor vehicle. The obligations that apply to a petrol motorcycle apply to it, and buyers are frequently caught out by this.

Registration. Motorised electric bikes and scooters used on public roads are registered with the provincial Excise and Taxation department in the same way as petrol motorcycles. The process typically involves your CNIC, the dealer's sale invoice or sale certificate, chassis and motor numbers, photographs and proof of address, followed by verification and payment of the applicable fee. Registration is handled provincially, so Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Islamabad each run their own office network, fee schedule and online systems. Punjab operates the most digitised process.

Driving licence. For a motorised e-bike you need a motorcycle driving licence, or at minimum a learner's permit. This is not optional and a car licence does not substitute — government e-bike schemes state the motorcycle-specific requirement explicitly as an eligibility condition, precisely because riding without one is unlawful.

Where the rules are genuinely unclear

Several websites state that electric bikes below 250W are exempt from registration. We could not verify this against any official federal or provincial notification. Pakistan does not appear to publish a single consolidated national rule defining a low-speed exemption for electric two-wheelers, and provincial practice may differ. Do not rely on a dealer's assurance. Confirm the position for your specific model with your provincial Excise and Taxation office before purchase, and get the answer in writing if you can.

Riding an electric bike safely and legally

If you are buying your first two-wheeler, sort the licence before the bike. You will need to pass the road-sign and theory test, and the format is the same whether your motorcycle runs on petrol or a battery. One safety point specific to electric bikes: they are close to silent. Pedestrians stepping into the road, and drivers pulling out of side streets, rely partly on engine noise to detect an approaching motorcycle. Ride on the assumption that you have not been heard, and use the horn earlier than you would on a petrol bike. Helmet requirements and all standard traffic rules apply unchanged.

Government subsidies and schemes, and what is actually running

Scheme information ages badly. Here is the position as of 12 August 2026, separated by status.

Active: the federal PAVE programme

The Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification programme operates under the New Energy Vehicles Policy 2025–30, approved by the federal cabinet in August 2025, and is implemented by the Engineering Development Board under the Ministry of Industries and Production. Applications run through the official portal at pave.gov.pk.

Phase 1 covered 41,000 vehicles — 40,000 electric bikes plus 1,000 rickshaws and 1,000 loaders — and the EDB has confirmed it is closed. Phase 2 was approved by the Economic Coordination Committee on 5 May 2026 with an allocation of about Rs 8.95 billion for FY2025–26, covering a further 78,170 vehicles against a full-year target of 119,170 including 116,000 bikes. Phase 2 replaced computerised balloting with first-come, first-served allocation, and changed the payment mechanism: buyers now pay the net price after subsidy, with EDB transferring the subsidy to the manufacturer through the State Bank once delivery and registration are verified.

Conflicting subsidy figures — verify before relying on either

Reported subsidy amounts for electric bikes differ between reputable outlets. Express Tribune, Profit by Pakistan Today, The Nation and PakWheels reported a subsidy of up to Rs 80,000 per electric bike. Business Recorder, reporting the same EDB briefing, stated Rs 40,000 for bikes and Rs 80,000 for rickshaws. We cannot resolve this discrepancy from public sources. Treat the applicable amount as unconfirmed and check the current figure on pave.gov.pk or with EDB directly before making a purchase decision that depends on it.

Active: the CM Punjab e-bike scheme

Punjab runs a separate provincial scheme through bikes.punjab.gov.pk, financed by the Bank of Punjab with the provincial government covering the markup, making the financing interest-free to the recipient. Selection is by computerised e-balloting, followed by BOP financial scrutiny including guarantor verification. Applicants must hold a motorcycle licence or learner's permit.

In July 2026 the Punjab Chief Minister announced an expanded programme of 100,000 electric bikes for students, reported as requiring a Rs 15,000 down payment and monthly instalments of about Rs 2,000. Several outlets additionally reported that female students would receive bikes free of charge. We have not been able to verify that free-of-charge element against an official notification, so treat it as reported rather than confirmed.

Subject to legal proceedings

The e-balloting results of the earlier Punjab 20,000-bike scheme carry a published notice stating they are subject to the final decision of the Lahore High Court. If you applied under that phase, your allocation may be affected.

What to be careful about

Only the official government portals process applications. Both the Punjab and federal programmes have warned applicants against agents and unofficial websites claiming to guarantee approval. No legitimate scheme requires a payment to an intermediary to submit an application.

Installment and financing options

Three routes exist in practice, and their terms change frequently enough that we will not quote specific rates.

  • Government schemes. PAVE offers a subsidised route with bank leasing; the Punjab scheme offers interest-free instalments via Bank of Punjab. Both require successful application and verification.
  • Bank financing. Several Pakistani banks advertise instalment plans for electric two-wheelers, including short-tenure zero-markup card instalment offers through bank marketplaces. Availability varies by bank, model and month.

Work through these in order. The first four decide whether an electric bike suits you at all; the rest decide which one.

  1. Measure your actual daily distance for a week, including detours. Do not estimate.
  2. Confirm you can charge where you park. No secure power point within reach of the bike means no electric bike, regardless of price.
  3. Check your electricity slab. A protected-tariff household and a high-slab household face very different running costs.
  4. Assess your load shedding pattern. A four-to-eight-hour charge needs a reliable window.
  5. Battery chemistry and capacity in Ah — written on the invoice, not just described verbally.
  6. Battery warranty length and what it covers — outright failure only, or capacity degradation too.
  7. Practical range with a pillion, assuming roughly 60% of the advertised figure.
  8. Motor power relative to your route. Inclines and heavy loads need more than 600W.
  9. Dealer and service presence in your city — not nationally, in your city.
  10. Spare parts availability, particularly controllers and chargers.
  11. Brakes, tyres and suspension — tubeless tyres and disc brakes at the front are worth paying for.
  12. Water resistance rating if you ride through monsoon flooding.
  13. Registration path confirmed with the provincial excise office.
  14. Licence — motorcycle licence or learner's permit in hand before delivery.
  15. Resale evidence — check whether used examples of that model are actually selling.
  16. Total three-year cost — purchase, plus electricity, plus one likely battery replacement.
